The University of the Aegean together with the Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint-Denis of France (Coordinator of the Network), Roskilde University of Demark, the University of Konstanz in Germany and the New Bulgarian University of Bulgaria, are the strategic partners of the “European Reform University Alliance” (ERUA), formed in the framework of the Community Initiative “European Universities” of Erasmus+.

The aim of this Initiative is to create a new generation of universities cooperating with each other in a modern multilingual and intercultural environment in order to jointly face future societal challenges. They are transnational alliances leading to the design of European Universities of the Future and functioning as “good practice models”.

ERUA is built on a common ambition to develop a new kind of collaboration, which not only connect universities within Europe but also reimagine the role of European universities in a global context. As reform universities we foster the critical function of the modern university by reflection upon, assessing and advancing alternatives to current models. We share a vision of universities as creative spaces, an awareness of the power of experimental approaches.

Our students come from the top and the bottom socio-economic deciles, from rural and urban settings, from local and global backgrounds. We propose an original disciplinary ecosystem thanks to our strength in SHS and Arts and our connection to Natural Sciences, Computer Sciences and Engineering. Together we span Europe. We offer students a rich and diverse environment with a shared pedagogical approach focused on project based learning, societal challenges and critical thinking.

ERUA is based on the critical assessment of how changes in higher education relate to wider societal crisis, risks processes, trends, but also opportunities. Together we aim to contribute to shaping a more just, open and inclusive society
