Ceremony to inaugurate Professor David Elliott Honoris causa Doctorate of the Department of Pre-school education and Educational Design of the University of the Aegean

A ceremony to inaugurate Professor David Elliott from the Steinhardt School of Education, Department of Culture and Human Development Department of Music & Performing Arts Professions, NYU, as Honoris causa Doctorate, took place on 10 April 2019 in Rhodes.
Professor David Elliott is the founder of Existential Philosophy of Music Education with significant academic work in the fields of Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology of Music and Music Education, Syntheses and Artistic Identity of Communities.
Before joining NYU in 2002, David Elliott was Professor of Music and Music Education at the University of Toronto. He also served as a Visiting Professor of Music and Music Education and has presented lectures and conference keynote papers at universities around the world for more than forty years. He has received international awards for his music and humanitarian work both as an academic and as a jazz composer/ arranger and professional trombonist. References to his pivotal book on Existential Philosophy of Music Education entitled “Music Matters: A new philosophy of music education” by Oxford Press exceed 5020 on an international level.


His cooperation with the Laboratory of Research on Practical Philosophy (L.R.P.Ph.), of the Department of Pre-school education and Educational Design, of the University of Aegean, began in 2018 in the context of his keynote speech at the 1st International Biennale of Practical Philosophy “Philosophy in Praxis. The Philosophical Gesture: Political, Ethical, Educational, Artistic Engagements” held in Rhodes 27-29 April 2018. And continued during the International Post-Conference Course Professional Development entitled “Playing with ‘gestures’: Aspects and reflections of Praxial Music Philosophy in the Classroom”.
